Much of Oman’s oil is produced with help: heavy crude lifted by progressive cavity and rod pumps, reservoirs heated by steam injection, and fields swept with polymer or water. The produced fluid often carries sand, and that sand passes through every pump and valve between the well and the processing plant.
Ultraweld Coat provides Pump and Valve Coating Services in Oman, including HVOF thermal spray, tungsten carbide coatings, and wear and corrosion protection. Parts are coated and finished at our works in Pune, India for customers in Oman’s oilfields, refineries and process plants.
A progressive cavity pump moves fluid in sealed chambers between a steel rotor and a rubber stator. Sand in heavy crude abrades the rotor crests, the seal line is lost and the pump stops delivering. A tungsten carbide coating applied by HVOF and polished smooth gives the rotor a surface hard enough to resist that abrasion, while the smooth finish protects the stator.
Plungers reciprocate against packing or a close-fitting barrel, so wear concentrates in the stroke area. Carbide coatings give high abrasion resistance. Where the plunger also sees impact or fatigue loading, nickel-based self-fluxing alloys are sprayed and fused to bond metallurgically with the base metal.
Steam injection puts valves in hot, wet, cycling service. For the balls and seats of metal seated valves at elevated temperature, chromium carbide nickel chrome is the usual choice; for cooler abrasive lines, tungsten carbide is used.

Rotors for heavy oil and sandy fluids, HVOF tungsten carbide coated and polished to protect the stator.

Plungers for rod pumps and high-pressure injection pumps, carbide coated or spray-and-fused depending on loading.

Ball and gate valve trim for steam, produced water and hydrocarbon service, coated and lapped for metal-to-metal sealing.

Impellers and casings for water injection, transfer and refinery process pumps that carry fine sand or scale.

Wear rings coated to resist particle erosion and metal-to-metal rubbing, keeping pump clearances and efficiency stable.

Shaft sleeves for packed and sealed pumps, protected against abrasion from solids embedded in the packing.
Coated components are supplied to customers anywhere in Oman, including Muscat, Sohar, Duqm, Salalah and the interior oilfields. See all our products and services for Oman.
Sand in the produced fluid is harder than a plain steel rotor and wears it quickly. HVOF tungsten carbide is hard enough to resist that abrasion, and its dense structure also resists corrosion from produced water.
Chromium carbide nickel chrome is generally selected for hot service. We confirm the choice against your operating temperature and media.
In many cases the old coating is removed, the plunger is re-coated and ground back to size. Whether this is possible depends on the condition of the base metal.
